Things Between Christ and Man

Wattog here, this time blogging about the things between Christ and man.  The way I see it, God could have given up on man when they fell, but do you know what?  He didn’t.  He did have to ban them from the beautiful garden and from the tree of life, but He did make a way to lift them back up. . .,bring them back in.

While digging, I found out, surprisingly, that man’s way back to life would be by death, the death of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.  Christ died in our place on the cross so He could give us new life and bring us back to God.

In this blog I will be sharing with you what I dug up about the interaction between Christ and man before He made that fated trip to the cross.  We will not necessarily be looking at the obvious things like the healings and the deliverances, but how man reacted to Christ’s words, to Christ’s works as He walked among them.  Perhaps this can help us that believe on Him today as He walks within us.

The list this time is a list of points.

When we forget Christ is in the same boat with us, the storms of this life  can make us afraid
Once the disciples and Christ were in a boat on a dark, stormy sea.  Jesus was sleeping through the storm, but His disciples woke Him up and cried out.  Lord, save us: we perish.  Jesus asked them.  Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? He then commanded the winds and the sea to be still.  The men marveled and said. What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! Matthew 8:23-27

When we get too caught up on doing, Christ points us to believing
Once they asked Christ, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he has sent. John 6:28-29

If we're having trouble fighting evil we should consider if we have prayed to God Who has power over evil
Once a man, kneeled down and asked Jesus to have mercy on his son, who was lunatic and was very troubled, oftentimes falling into fire and water, and that he had brought him to His disciples, but they could not cure him.  Jesus rebuked the devil; and the devil departed out of his son and he was cured right away.  His disciples asked Jesus. Why couldn’t we cast him out? Jesus told them, Because of your unbelief: if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say unto this mountain, be removed from here and go to a yonder place; and it will be removed; [like I just did when I banished the demon from the man’s son] and nothing shall be impossible unto you, but this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:14-21

Don’t walk away from God just because something is too hard for you to understand
Once Jesus told His disciples that except they eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, they would have no life in them, but whoever eats of His flesh, and drinks of His blood, has eternal life; and will be raised up at the last day, for His flesh was meat indeed and His blood drink indeed. .  .Many of His disciples said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? Jesus asked them. Does this offend you?  What and if you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life, but there are some of you that believe not. No man can come unto me, except it be given them of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. John 6:53-66

Don't be too hard on sinners, Christ came to save them.
Once the scribes and Pharisees brought before Jesus a woman taken in adultery and told Him the law Moses commanded that she be stoned.  Jesus told them. He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. When they heard that, they were convicted by their own conscience, and went away one by one, and Jesus was left alone with the woman, He asked her Woman, where are your accusers? Hasn’t any condemned you?  She answered, No man, Lord. Jesus told her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:3-11

Do not be jealous of another’s worship
Once a woman brought an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it over Christ’s head, but this act of worship angered His disciples, they were thinking about money and not worship and asked; why would she waste money  like that when it could have been given to the poor. Jesus told them she did a good thing & she did it for His burial and that they would always have the poor with them, but they wouldn’t always have Him with them. Matthew 26:6-13

Those opposed to God cannot see His goodness
Once Jesus was teaching in the synagogue on the Sabbath day and there was a man who had a withered hand. The scribes and Pharisees watched Jesus to see if He would heal the man on the Sabbath day so that they might accuse him for breaking the law. Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said to the man with the withered hand, Rise up, and stand and the man rose up and stood. Jesus asked, Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? He said to the man, Stretch forth your hand and when the man did, his hand was restored whole as the other. They were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. Luke 6:6-11

Rejoice that its faith in the Name of Jesus that our names get written in heaven
The seventy returned with joy, and told Jesus, Even the devils are subject to us through Your name. Jesus told them, I beheld Satan as lightning falling from heaven and I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:17-20

There was a time when man had to listen to what the law and prophets had to say, now it’s time for man to listen to what Christ has to say.
Once Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, up on a high mountain away from the others and then He was transformed right in front of them: His face shined like the sun, even His clothes were white as light. Moses and Elias appeared before them and started talking to Jesus.  Peter’s response was: . Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you want us to we can make 3 tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elias, but while he was speaking a bright cloud came over them & a voice that said; This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.  When they heard the voice, they fell on their faces.  Jesus touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.  When they got up Jesus was the only one there and He told them not to tell the vision to anyone until He was risen again from the dead. Matthew 17:1-9

The reasoning of men cannot grasp the authority of heaven
Once while in the temple, there came to Christ, chief priests and scribes, and elders, and they asked Him, Who gave You the authority to do the things you do? Jesus answered them, I will also ask you a question, and if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? They reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; He will say, Why then didn’t you believe him? But if we say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John as a prophet. They answered Him. We cannot tell. Jesus told them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. Mark 11:27-33

Seeing our need to change is humbling, but brings greatness

Once His disciples asked Him a question: Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?  With that, Jesus called a little child unto him, and said, except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven, whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-4
We should never treat someone like we’ve been taught to treat them, but how Christ treats them

When Jesus was telling the woman of Samaria about living water, His disciples marveled that he was talking with the woman, because the Jews didn’t have any dealings with the Samaritans, yet they didn’t ask Him why He was talking to her. John 4:6-29

Don’t try to fight spiritual battles by fleshly means.
When they came to take Jesus, and Peter took his sword out and cut off the ear of the high priest's servant, Jesus told him, Put your sword back: the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it? John 18:10-11

Man tends to want to earn their way, but you cannot earn eternal life
. . .generosity brings true treasures
Once a young man asked Jesus. What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?  Jesus told him. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.  The man asked Him. Which ones.  Jesus told him.
Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and thy mother and love your neighbor as yourself.  The young man said to Him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?  Jesus told him, If will be perfect, go and sell what you have, give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven and come and follow me, but when the young man heard that he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.  Jesus told His disciples, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. When his disciples heard it, they were amazed and asked. Who then can be saved?  Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:16-26

Always be aware that we are of the spirit of life
When it was almost time to give His life, Jesus was set on going to Jerusalem, so He sent messengers to go before Him.  They entered into a Samaritan village to make ready for Him but they did not receive Him, because His face was as though He would go to Jerusalem and when His disciples James and John said, Lord, would You want us to command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?  Jesus rebuked them, and said, You know not what manner of spirit you are of, for the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Luke 9:51-56 John 20:19

God’s peace is what will calm our fears in the midst of persecution
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
John 20:25

God's goodness brings sinful man to his knees…the net broke, the boat almost sank

Once the people were pressing Jesus to bring them word, so He entered Peter’s boat and told him to go out a little off from the land and He taught the people out of the ship. When He finished speaking, he told Peter, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught, but Simon told Him. Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net and when he did, they caught a great multitude of fishes, their net even broke. They called others to help and they filled both the ships with so many fish, the boats began to sink. Peter was so astonished at the sight, he fell down at Jesus' knees, and said, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. Jesus told him, Fear not; from now on you will catch men. Luke 5:1-11
It's when we think we can stand on our own 2 feet, that we usually fall

One time Jesus told His disciples, All of you shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. . .Peter was quick to declare, Though all men shall be offended because of You, yet will I never be offended. Jesus could see ahead of time and told him., before the cock crows, you will deny me 3 times.  Peter was insistent and said, Though I should die with You, yet will I never deny You., then all the disciples said the same thing. After Jesus was delivered up, Peter was sitting outside  the palace: and a girl said to him. You were one of them that was with Jesus of Galilee.  Peter denied it.  Then another girl said to all that were around. This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. Peter denied knowing Christ.  Then they that stood by said to Peter, Surely you are one of them; your speech reveals it. Peter denied it, in fact he began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. The cock crowed and then Peter remembered the words of Jesus, and he went out, and wept bitterly.  Later, after rising again from the dead,  Jesus asked Peter, 3 times, do you love me more than these? Peter answered Him 3 times, Yes, Lord. Perhaps these 3 questions were asked to help Peter forgive himself for denying Christ 3 times? Matthew 26:31-35; Matthew 26:69-75, John 21:15-17
We live in the hour of prayer...praying that God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven

Once, right before the crucifixion, Jesus went to a garden to pray, He told His disciples, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry here, and watch with me.  He prayed the prayer, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.  When He went back to His disciples, they were not watching with Him, they were sleeping. He said to Peter. Could you not watch with me one hour?  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:36-46
Christ can see what we do and hear what we say

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after He rose from the dead, Thomas wasn’t there and did not believe the others saw the Lord.  He said. Except I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 8 days later Jesus came back and Thomas was there.  Jesus told Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. To that Thomas said. My Lord and my God.  Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you’ve seen me, you believe: blessed are they that have not seen me, and yet believe.John 20:24-31
When we value God’s will above our own will, we find true life

When Jesus told His disciples that He would have to go to Jerusalem and suffer and die and be raised again the third day, Peter rebuked and said, Be it far from You, Lord: this shall not be done to You.  Jesus turned and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: you are an offence unto me: for you do not value the things that be of God, but those that be of men, then Jesus told His disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:21-26
We can never be too small to come to God, but we can become too big to come to God

Once when some people brought little children to Jesus to pray for them, His disciples rebuked them, but Jesus told them, Allow the little children to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:13-15
